So, uh, my NaNo came to a absolute halt about a week or more ago. I just COULDN'T do it this year. COULDN'T! And, really, I think that it's because I came up with a completely original story about a year ago (it's about werewolves!) and it has suddenly began to haunt me in the sense that I really want to work on it.
Of course, I've already realized why it's started to haunt me. "New *blank* Moon" came out, and suddenly all the girls in my school are like "OMG, EDWARD!" and "OMG, JACOB!" to the extent that I just want to hurt them. There is the small minority, of course, that is looking at them like this -- o.O -- and those who are simply going, "WTF?!" I happen to be one of those.
Have I ever gone down this road? I don't think I have in any of my journals.
Anyway, I loathe "Twilight." It's a superficial romance that consists mainly of Bella Swan (seriously, SERIOUSLY, "beautiful" swan?!) moping around when Edward's not around to tell her what to do, and Edward controlling her, or, worse, stalking her while she's asleep.
And, really, I TRIED. When "Twilight" came out I TRIED so hard to find out what was so popular about it. And I realized, just recently, that S. Meyer somehow (I'm still going to say that it's hypnotism, but I'm also for the fact that young girls don't have to even THINK about what they're reading) managed to appeal to young girls with her annoyingly low vocabulary by attempting to make Edward seem so perfect with words like "Adonis" and "marble."
But, the fact of the matter is, he isn't.
*sigh*
HOWEVER, I did get a kick out of reading a few of the "bad" reviews on amazon.com for it today. I felt really sorry for this one guy, because, apparently, his girlfriend read "Twilight," thought Edward was the perfect guy, tried to turn him into Edward and then, in a tragic moment, dumped him for another guy she thought WAS Edward. Seriously.
So, yeah. I'm probably going to write my book. Simply because it's ridiculous that someone who writes garbage gets millions of dollars because a bunch of screaming, oozing girls think that a stalker, abusive, controlling boyfriend is what they need in life. And, let me tell you, my book will be nothing like that.
